WATCH: The Black Crowes Unleash Wild New Video for “Profane Prophecy”

2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees The Black Crowes are turning up the heat with the release of the official music video for “Profane Prophecy,” a bold, Russ Meyer–inspired visual that matches the swagger of the band’s newly released single. The track appears on the group’s forthcoming album, A Pound of Feathers, due out March 13.

Decadent, confrontational, and intentionally unhinged, the video plunges headfirst into a crimson-soaked world where devils roam freely and chaos reigns. The imagery leans hard into symbolism, with red hues and devilish figures standing in for the seven deadly sins, blurring the line between fantasy and reality as they swirl around the band in a deliberately off-kilter moral landscape.

“‘Profane Prophecy’ is about the devil you know, the devil you never knew, the devil inside of me and the devil inside of you,” shared frontman Chris Robinson. “The mischief and madness in the beautiful expression that is rock n’ roll… and you can dance to it.”

The visual was directed by artist and musician Dagger Polyester, whom Robinson discovered in the LA’s underground music scene. Drawing inspiration from Russ Meyer’s provocative, hyper-stylized cult films, Polyester collaborated with 15 students from a Los Angeles art collective to build the world from the ground up — from custom costumes and set design to choreography and striking hair and makeup.

Fast cuts, fearless framing, and a femme fatale–tinged finale give the video a cinematic jolt, echoing the rebellious spirit of cult cinema. At the center of it all are brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, whose commanding performance grounds the surreal spectacle, blending classic Black Crowes energy with something darker and more daring.
