WATCH: Billy Strings’ New Song “10,000 Miles From a Friend”

Three-time GRAMMY Award winner Billy Strings has released his latest song, “10,000 Miles From a Friend,” offering another glimpse into his new album, So Much For Goodbyes, due August 28 via Reprise Records.

Strings also released an official music video for the new track, continuing the deeply personal story behind the forthcoming 16-song album. Produced by Strings and T Bone Burnett, So Much For Goodbyes was created during a significant period of grief following the death of Strings’ mother, Debra Apostol, whose original artwork also appears with the project.

“I made this record to honor my mother,” Strings says. “To notice and embrace this very significant period of grief in my life and make art from it.”

“10,000 Miles From a Friend” follows the previously released album tracks “Mill Town Flood” and “Burn the Other End,” the latter earning praise from VICE and Rolling Stone for its dark, folk-driven sound.

The new album finds Strings leaning into some of his most reflective songwriting yet, using his guitar and music as a way to process loss while continuing to push the boundaries of bluegrass and roots music.

Strings is currently on an extensive headline tour that continues through the fall, with upcoming stops including Denver’s Ball Arena, Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, San Diego’s Pechanga Arena and Baltimore’s CFG Bank Arena. He also recently earned six IBMA Award nominations and will return to Austin City Limits later this year.

So Much For Goodbyes arrives as Strings continues one of the biggest runs of his career. His previous album, Highway Prayers, earned him his third GRAMMY Award and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart.
