Few soundtracks have left a mark on American music quite like O Brother, Where Art Thou?—and this winter, the Grand Ole Opry is giving it the celebration it deserves.
The Opry will host a 25th anniversary celebration of the eight-times Platinum O Brother, Where Art Thou?soundtrack on Saturday, February 28, bringing together an extraordinary lineup of artists who helped define one of the most influential roots music releases of the past quarter century.
The special Opry show will feature performers from the original soundtrack alongside fellow torchbearers of American roots music, including Alison Krauss, Billy Strings, Chris Thomas King, Colin Linden, Dan Tyminski, Del McCoury Band, Emmylou Harris, Fisk Jubilee Singers, Jerry Douglas, Molly Tuttle, Old Crow Medicine Show, Sarah Jarosz, The Fairfield Four, The Whites, Tim Blake Nelson, and more, including the Alaskan Sunnyside Sisters.
Released in 2000 and produced by T Bone Burnett for the Coen Brothers’ film of the same name, O Brother, Where Art Thou? helped ignite a full-scale revival of bluegrass, gospel, blues, country, and folk music. Much like the Opry itself has done for more than a century, the anniversary show will honor the timeless sounds of the American South and the artists who carried them forward to a new generation.
Set in rural Mississippi during the Great Depression, the film starred George Clooney, John Turturro, and Tim Blake Nelson as three escaped convicts on a winding journey through the South. Its soundtrack went on to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning multiple GRAMMY® Awards including Album of the Year, along with Album of the Year honors from the CMA Awards, ACM Awards, and IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards.
Over the years, O Brother, Where Art Thou? has been credited with sparking a 21st-century roots music renaissance, reintroducing traditional American sounds to the mainstream and influencing countless artists along the way. As Pitchforknoted, the album “primed a generation for a modern folk revival,” while Rolling Stone praised its authenticity, calling the collection “so true to the music’s down-home, egalitarian roots that it’s hard to distinguish the old tracks from the new.”
In conjunction with the anniversary, Lost Highway Records will release a 25th anniversary vinyl gatefold edition of the soundtrack on February 20, 2026, and an exclusive O Brother, Where Art Thou? 25th anniversary Hatch Show Print poster will be available at The Opry Shop.
