Search Underway for 9-Year-Old Boy on Duck River in Shelbyville

A 9-year-old boy is still missing after two brothers disappeared on the Duck River in Shelbyville.

Sheriff Austin Swing confirmed to News 2 there was an active water rescue Tuesday night at Fisherman’s Park until it was called off at 8:40 p.m.

The sheriff said the water is very high for this time of year, and as night fell, there was limited visibility and dangerous search conditions.

According to Scott Johnson, the Bedford County EMA Director, authorities don’t know yet whether this is a rescue or recovery search.

They’re expected to hit the water again Wednesday morning.

Neither of boys’ identities have been released at this time. Further details weren’t immediately known.
