Carnegie Writers 10th Annual Conference - A Writing Renaissance

Carnegie Writers, the South’s leading creative writing group, is excited to welcome aspiring writers from across the region to its 10th Annual Conference in metro Nashville, a hub for modern Southern writing. The organization will host its conference at Southeast Branch Library, 5260 Hickory Hollow Pkwy #201 in Antioch, Tenn. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST (11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET). Registration is free and open to the public via Eventbrite.

As the South’s demographics rapidly change and AI continues to transform communication, this year’s conference theme is “A Writing Renaissance: Embracing Diversity, Technology, and Creativity.” The conference will feature workshops and tutorials to help novice and advanced writers enhance their skills, creativity, and readership reach. As AI continues to reshape creative industries, from publishing to journalism, the conference aims to explore how writers can harness these tools to expand their storytelling and outreach. Amanda Little, Professor of Journalism and Opinion Writing at Vanderbilt University, columnist for Bloomberg News, and founder and director of the non-partisan civic media platform Kidizenship, will deliver the keynote address, “The Rise and Power of Civic Storytelling.”

“Carnegie Writers is proud to host those at the forefront of modern Southern writing,” said Dr. Kemi Elufiede, President and Founder. “This conference offers aspiring writers of all literary genres and ages the opportunity to engage with professionals and peers in a relaxed, yet socially enriching, educational setting.”

“I’m honored and excited to present the keynote at the Carnegie Writers conference this year,” said Amanda Little. We live in an extraordinary moment in creative expression and civic storytelling. All writers, especially those among the rising generation, have new tools, spaces, and platforms to raise their voices, share their stories, shape their communities, and influence democracy at large. As Ursula LeGuin said, ‘Words are events, they do things, change things.’ Never has that been more evident than it is today.”
