Nashville airport lets beer drinkers roam terminal

Nashville airport lets beer drinkers roam terminal

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -The Nashville International Airport announced a new policy allowing passengers to buy drinks at bars or restaurants in the airport and carry them throughout the terminal.

The policy was enacted after the Metro Nashville Airport Authority obtained new beer and liquor permits.

As part of the new regulations, passengers will not be allowed to carry the drinks onto planes and they must remain in secure areas.

Not all passengers are happy about the new policy.

“Passengers can have a drink, and I think that's fine and I'm great with that, but I just think it has a tendency to get a little out of hand when you're bringing it out in public,” Mickeye Murphy told News 2.

Other travelers, however, are excited for the new rule.

"I think it's a great idea. It's a way to drum up business, make a little bit more money. A lot of people are nervous fliers as is, so it helps them out in the long run,” Sean Creighton explained.

Creighton also said he did not think the airport will have trouble with passengers boarding the plane drunk.

"It's just like drinking anywhere else, but I think in an airport setting, there's so much regulation and control that it's not really going to be an issue,” said Creighton.

The Nashville Airport Authority said it is trying to make travel more convenient for Nashville fliers and does not see the new policy as a security risk.
