Nashvillian David Scarlett is Music News Editor for Nashville.com and has spent more than 20 years as a performer/songwriter, public relations executive and writer. From 2001 through early 2010, he was on the staff of Country Weekly Magazine, beginning as a reporter and working his way up to managing editor. While there, he interviewed and wrote stories about the top stars in the industry, as well us country legends and up-and-coming artists. He has regularly been featured on several major market radio stations as well as on Blair Garner’s nationally syndicated AfterMidnite. David currently does twice weekly “In the Know On Music Row” segments on Skip Mahaffey’s syndicated Skip Show.
David began his solo performing career while in college. Later, while playing nights in Nashville-area clubs and lounges, he wrote concert reviews for Billboard Magazine and composed jingles and music for independent film projects.
He performed throughout the country, but eventually realized he was less likely to become a star and more likely to wind up singing “Please Release Me” for a crowd of two at the local Holiday Inn. So, David opted to put his degree to use, joining the Gaylord Entertainment corporate public relations office in Nashville. He later managed the PR operations of Fiesta Texas theme park in San Antonio, before returning to Nashville to work for a Music Row PR firm.
David has written songs for several Nashville artists and has gold and multi-platinum albums to his credit. Thanks, Reba.
