Fox News has reported that Keith Urban will sign a contract to be a judge on American Idol. Via a source, Fox says Keith will be paid $3 to $4 million for his role making Urban the lowest paid of the judges. The Hollywood Reporter said Brad Paisley turned down the offer that Unban excepted. Nicki Mina and Enrique Iglesias are supposedly also in the running. Blake Shelton recently told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton how he feels about the situation, “I hope they choose a country artist, because if you watch those shows, it’s the country artists who go on to have big careers, because the country fan base is the most loyal in the world. If they see someone on The Voice or Idol, they don’t care if they win or lose. They wait for the album to come out, and they demand music to come out from that artist.” Shelton is working on Season 3 of The Voice.
