The Band Perry On Writing With Sheryl Crow

The Band Perry is working on their sophomore album, and it could include a song from someone Kimberly calls one of their musical heroes, Sheryl Crow. “A huge influence of mine has always been Sheryl Crow,” she says. “Lyrically she’s so creative and completely unique to herself. She’s a strong lady, she’s a fantastic performer, she’s got a little bit of spitfire herself. [I have] always looked up to Sheryl.” The band actually had a writing session with Sheryl in Nashville back in February, although no word on if anything they wrote together made the new project. Some other female writers that Kimberly really admires include Matraca Berg, who co-wrote songs like Deana Carter’s “Strawberry Wine,” Trisha Yearwood‟s “XXX‟s and OOO‟s” and Kenny Chesney‟s “You and Tequila,” and Natalie Hemby, whose songs include Miranda Lambert’s “Baggage Claim” and Little Big Town’s “Pontoon.” Natalie opened for The Band Perry at their Ryman show and Kimberly says, “[I'm] in love with her voice, in love with her heart. And we always really connect with male and female artists who bring kind of the artist heart to their songwriting.”
