The Tim McGraw, Elvis Presley Connection

Tim McGraw got some interesting news when he recently appeared on NBC’s Who Do You Think You Are? The show, which walks celebrities through their ancestry, traced Tim’s roots back to his German ancestors. He learned that his eighth great-grandfather, Johan Jost Hayd, emigrated to America at age 24 and worked hard for a better quality of life, first for the British Navy and then as a farmer.

Then the genealogy expert had more great news: A family by the name of “Preslar” was in Hayd’s migration group. The last name was later changed to “Presley” – as in Elvis. The expert told McGraw that Presley’s ancestors were traveling with his ancestors to America. Tim laughed and said, “Maybe they were jammin’ [together], you know, on the boat on the way over!”

It is always neat to find about our ancestors. It can teach us about our self, not just genetics, also our health, & the fun part, What life was like when they where alive. It was hard for are ancestors to live each day. Most peolpe today could not live whith out Power,Phone,CEll Phone, computers, & so on.

Sure hope your are injoying your life and family. Family is what life is all about. We never know when one of them can go meet God.

I was 13yrs. old in 1960, so I’ve seen a lot of real great artists, but ” ELVIS ” will always be the King. But I could see you as a relative of his, the sex appeal, the class, the looks a great voice, you’ve got it all, and I don’t think I’ve seen it all in one since “ELVIS”, but honey you’ve got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!You’re a great artist and man.

My daughter is blood related to Elvis Presley through her Grandmother Lynda V Presley. My daughter also has a great love for music. Hope she turns out half as good as Elvis Presley and Tim McGraw.

I love Tim, his Dad Tug is my mothers 2nd cousin Tug use to bring tickets to what ever ball game he was playing in when they came to California, I can remember Tim when he was about 3 or 4 There are still Christmas cards of the McGraws in with all my parents things was a blast from the past to see the card with them in front of the Red Wood trees.

  • There is Elvis and then a huge drop off to everyone else. No dis respect to Tim Mcgraw but let’s show his picture to someone walking the dirt roads of China and the non English speaking person will shake their head as if motioning the answer NO…Now show the same person a picture of Elvis. Their face brightens, the smile immediately grows , they do a little hip shake and they say ELVIS!

  • WOW!!! The same ancestor as Tim McGraw. Josh Hite, Hyde in Germany, is my gr.gr.gr.gr.gr.gr.gr. grandfather through son Joseph. The singing talent did not make it very far up my family tree!! Have always loved Tim Mcgraw, and know we have the same zest for living the good life.. good.. as our strong ancestor lived his.

My parents and other family members have been into genealogy for as long as I can remember. On my mother’s side we are related to Jost Hite. My mother’s maiden name is Hite. On my father’s side, we are related to Elvis Presley, though my dad discovered that link long after Elvis died. I would love someday to meet Tim and wish I could have met Elvis. I did see him in concert in Charleston WV the year before he died.

My children ARE musically talented, especially my daughter, whose life’s dream was to perform and teach, but due to an accident, she has been unable to reach her goal. She hopes to someday be able to pick it up. I pray for her to do so b/c she was awesome and had the range that Mariah Carey has. I don’t know if my kids “got” any talent from the ancestors b/c no one in the last few generations on either side of MY family have any real musical talent, but my husband’s family all have a great talent, both instrumental and vocal.
