Walking distance and resonable

My friend and I would like to stay somewhere downtown near the action that we could walk from or take public transit from to get to the night life of the area. We're looking at between $60-$90 or so a night which might be ridiculous but if you can make a suggestion that would be great. If that price range is out of the question for downtown where is the next best place to look for hotels? (The dates we are looking are 8/9 & 8/10)

Here are some suggestions:

Alexis Inn & Suites - it's off of Briley Parkway near the airport. It's not fancy, but it's reasonably priced and clean.

Holiday Inn Express on Broadway in downtown Nashville.
