    Default Hi from Germany

    Hello Nashville folks!

My name is Tim, I'm 20 years old and I was born in Berlin, Germany.

    Why I'm here?

Well I actually look for people who can help me gathering as much informations bout nashville as possible.
I'm travelling on 22th of July till 11th of August to Nashville.
Reason for that trip is that I wanna move completely! Germany sux in every way u can imagine. All is going down here, 20% unepmloyment rate, rising daily, corrupt politics, no future for educated people, just a superficial society where everybody just looks on occurence, I mean how anybody looks like, like phonies. I hate it.

I have german Abitur (13years of school) and currently I'm on a trainee work (2,5 years) for retail. My leisure time consits of Basketball, also training youth teams and Bowling. But computers and music I like either.

My dream is to live and work in Nashville and start a family if possible.
I want my kids raised in a society where humans count not what they dress or how much cash they effort.

Think u all understood my intention and I hope to find many friends and supporters here!

    Thanks for attention

    Thanks
first question is where can i find a cheap but comfortable lodging near the airport? I would prefer living in a guesthouse with people who can give me advices and support my trip with as much informations as i can get.

Is it possible to rent a car for me? 20years, European Union drivers license since 2 years

whats better? payin everything by credit card or having at least some few cash on my own (e.g. coffee, food etc.)

    thanks,

    Tim

Hello Tim! Car rental agencies vary with age restrictions - for example, Hertz Rent A Car - you have to be 25 years old. Enterprise Rental A car - you only have to be 21. Also, I think it varies as to whether you can just use your European Union drivers license. You may also have to have your drivers license from your home country. As far as what's better - using your credit card or using cash. Do you have a debit credit card? That would be a good option for you instead of carrying around a lot of cash. OF course, you will want to have cash on hand for small things like coffee, food, etc. A place to stay....Do you have to stay at or near the airport? Are you open to staying in a different part of Nashville?

Well, it aint have to be near airport. Actually I just want to be near a kind of Center.
Also I would prefer living in a guest family or kind of private lodging.

Yup my credit card is debit compatible.

Hum... with the car rental it sounds difficult. But my license is European Union standard, so there is no need for having a seperate of my own country. All European Union members have the same layout of the license (excepted the new members like Poland or Czech Republic...).

But never mind, thansk for your quick reply

    Thanks,
25$ / day is cheap indeed. Saved the page in my favorites. I look for some alternatives. A friend of mine told me that Holiday Inn hotels are also not expensive and breakfast is included. But on HI Homepage the price starts at 80$.
I see on Google earth that around Hickory Hollow Mall are some places to stay. Another mall someone could suggest?
Is there any kind of center in Nashville? Capitol Hill seems matching. I mean, here in Berlin u have more centers e.g. the Friedrich street where u have a 7km road full of shops, theaters, clubs, restaurants etc.
I'm also looking for some places where i can go to play Basketball. Any recommend courts or opportunities?

By watching closer around Nashville, I'm getting impressed. The outskirts look so natural, so nice and quiet. That kind of area near Nolensville is the exact region for resting after my trainee work

    Google Earth is the best

I've rented a car yesterday from 22.07. till 01.08. with all insurance comfort benefits.
Now I only need a kind family where i can stay and who can give me advices and tips for my trip
Then all is done, all is secured and my over excitement can rise without critical thoughts about that trip

Does anyone know an agency for getting to know guest families? Or boarding houses?

    kind rergards

Where were you able to rent a car and did you get a good deal? Not sure about host families - I'll look around and see if I can get you some info. Sounds like it's all falling into place for you!

rented it on www.alamo.de for 311€ / 12 days economy under 25 comfort.
Also free cancellation till 2 weeks before arriving. So if you know a better one tell me! I'm open for all, but by the way I'm not 21 yet, guess thats why I have to rent it from Germany.

well, actually a falling in love place, yes. All I heard about Nashville was the best.
In general it is just realizing a dream travelling to the USA alone. It was not supposed to be a real big city. Nashville aint that big like Memphis, Atlanta or St. Louis so i picked NV. Most important was just the fact that the Town is in the middle of the United States because some of my friends did an exchange visit in the 10th class for one year and they lived in Arkinsor (two of them) and Huntsville. They told me to visit the South, for get to know the people there. Seems that the impressions they took were just the best, so I'm supposed to convince myself of it.

    and... I will

    regards

People can be nice but that often involves being insincere (you don't know what they're thinking or what kind of person they really are). It seems hard to find real people here. Maybe that's only possible in metros like what I'm used to. I'm from California and Californians are often described as being rude, but IMO that's only because we're relaxed enough to just be ourselves and not be all uptight or anti-social. Just my 2 cents anyway.....

I find Europe to be paradise (esp Norway, where I have family). Let's trade places.

Hum... but all seem to be very nice, superficially. Cos I had no icq/msn/yim contact to them.
But anyway I would be on it by trading places bro'

For me its a shame to be a German. Its embarrassing watching the upper, white collar society rule in any kinds over the middle class end even much more over the blue collar class. The system failes in every way u can imagine. if u watch statistics here, the number of workers/employees decreases daily. The elder people get older and older and need longer pension.
On the other side the lazy people of Germany lay down and relax while getting "HARTZ 4" and other social welfare benefits which is enough for living a average life here.
People like me who attended 13 years of school and study after that are worthless because they never gonna find a job cos they're overqualified and cant be payed ---> either they take the low wage and be happy with it or they have to leave the country.
Its unbelievable but children are the most expensive god given present. NO real worker can effort a child without doubts. Every time I see the unemployed with kids I cant believe how they can pay all the bills, cos gas, electricity, petrol, TV, even food products increase continualy. Everybody has to submit, no one (of the non upper exclusive class) cant change! Its a way to hell.

Well in my opinion in 15-20 years the bun will burst, I mean Germanys problems will reach the "We need a war again!" situation. Its definitely adjudged to failure, no doubt.

Hopefully I can sit back in this time and play outside with my kiddies in a kindly and well structured society with a balanced system!

You Americans often dont realize how lucky you are! You should thank god for that.

    kind regards

    Tim

    Unhappy

Well in my case it would be better to head to Europe, or at least to Norway where I can receive a stipend from the government for living expenses. Artists take a back seat to athletes over here, and I think it's really sad. The culture is all about making money and marketing. I'm not a sell-out, so I can't cut out a decent living for myself here. Oh well...capitalism, la la.

Guten Tag, wie geht es Ihnen? - Hello, how are you?

I took 3 years of German in high school and hardly get the chance to use it. I hope to eventually make it to Oktoberfest in Munich as it looks like more fun than our American versions of it, there's the beer, food & dancing but no ferris wheel.
