Welcome
To Bush Country 9/11

Bush country 9/11 is a historical account of the first year following 9/11. The song was written between 9/11/01 and 9/11/02. It is an attempt to capture the events as they happened for future generations of Americans to serve as a reminder to keep the watch towers manned and to preserve our greatest asset for freedom. Our belief in God. For with out God there is no hope and with out hope there is no will to fight.

God bless America

More below

I was born on 9/11. And on the morning of 9/11/01 I awoke with the anticipation of a quick peace of momma’s apple pie and a full day of just being the man. Instead my country was attacked and all I got was angry. I’m still angry. As I watched the television I began to capture on paper our thoughts and feelings as a nation. Over the next year as events unfolded I incorporated them into the song. On the anniversary of 9/11/02, I laid down my pen and said “it is done.” The next year I tried to find some one to help me fund the making of this song or at least point me in the right direction. I thought it would help us as a nation to heal and inspire our soldiers to perform the difficult task ahead, but no one cared. People still don’t care. May God forgive us.

In the spring of 2003 we had some tornados come threw our area and President Bush came to town to tour the damage. I have always wanted to use a sound byte he made on 9/11/01 but I wanted him to remake it and toughen it up a little bit. So with more brass than brain, I went to the air port where he landed to see if I could talk to him about remaking it. After all, with the President on my side, who wouldn’t want to help me then? Well, plain A was simple enough but it didn’t work so I tried plan B which also back fired badly. From out of no where two armed black hawk helicopters popped up on me and held me there until an army of police and secret service men showed up. Needless to say that was a touchy Situation and my wife became afraid that some thing bad would happen to us so she made me promise to give up the song idea.

I put the song in a shoe box under our bed and there it remained. But on the night when we heard the president’s announcement to send additional troops to Iraq I could see that some thing inside my wife had changed. I watched as she went and got the song. As she brought it to me she started to cry and told me she was sorry. She said she was wrong for not supporting me. Then she laid her hand on the song and blessed it with a prayer and told me to do what ever I had to do to get it made. I never asked her why she changed her mind. I’m just grateful that she did, even though I lack the funds and record making knowledge to go any further with it. But rest assured I will not stop trying.
Have you ever heard the story of stone soup?
