    Default What's cookin' in March?

My 17 year old daughter and I will be staying at the Doubletree Hotel Nashville Hotel on 4th Avenue North on March 2 and 3, 2007 and are looking for things to do. We both love music (I'm a composer and musician) and I was disappointed that there wasn't anything going on at the Grand Old Opry that weekend. We'd like to take in a concert and will most likely visit the Ryman, Country Music Hall of Fame, etc. I'm looking for something that would make this trip memorable for a 17 year old girl. I've been online searching and haven't found too much. I'd like to book things ahead of time, but maybe it's still too early? I'd appreciate any suggestion.

    Post Check out the symphony...

The new symphony center is beautiful and has an event during the time you are visiting... Look for it online at Nashvillesymphony.com.

Wink Nashville - Grand Ole Opry, Ryman Auditorium and Live Music Clubs

The Grand Ole Opry House (http://nashville.com/music/opry/index.html) does have a show on Friday, March 2 at 8pm. As of today, Emmylou Harris, John Starling and Carolina Star are scheduled to perform. On Saturday, March 3, there are two shows - one at 6:30pm & the other at 9:30pm. Those performing include Asleep at the Wheel, Emmylou Harris, John Starling and Carolina Star.

Comedian Ralphie May from NBC’s hit reality series, Last Comic Standing has a show at the Ryman Auditorium on Friday, March 2 at 8pm. (not sure if appropriate for a 17 year old, may want to check if you're interested)

It is a bit early to see what bands / musicians will be performing at the local establishments, however, we suggest you keep an eye on the Nashville.com Calendar of Events - http://nashville.com/calendarofevents/index.html as it's frequently updated. Also, here are some names of popular music venues in Nashville: Robert's Western World 615-244-9552, Wildhorse Saloon 615-902-8200, 3rd & Lindsley 615-259-9891, 12th & Porter 615-254-7250, and Bluebird Café 615-383-1461. Hmmmm....please call Grand Ole Opry at 615-871-6779. Once you hear the recording, just press zero and you'll be directed to a sales agent.

    Get those tickets & enjoy!

bigcow - We just talked to Grand Ole Opry again and they realized they gave us the performance info for February 2 & 3 in error. And, you're correct, as of today, no one is scheduled for March 2 & 3. Our apologies - we're as disappointed as you. You'll just have to keep checking with them for updated info!

    Good luck!

    Glenn,

Have you tried calling any of these places - Robert's Western World, Tootsies Orchid Lounge, Wildhorse Saloon, 3rd & Lindsley, 12th & Porter? (the phone numbers are above - except for Tootsies - and that number is 615-726-0463. As for Grand Ole Opry, you'll just have to keep trying.

    JoJo,

Carrie Underwood, Craig Morgan and Sunny Sweeney are scheduled to perform at the Opry on March 2nd. From your experience, should I get tix now or are there always tickets available the day of the performance?

    Thanks,
    Glenn

    That's great news!

From my experience - if you want to attend - why wait? Get your tickets now and that will be one less thing you'll have to do later.

    Enjoy!

The reason I ask is I noticed that they keep adding performers every week and I wasn't sure whether to hold out for a few weeks to see who they would be adding to Saturday night's show. How many performers usually play?

We've been told by Grand Ole Orpry that you can change tickets without a charge - assuming tickets are available for the show you're interested in. So, if you purchase tickets for one show and then you decide to switch nights, you can do so. Just keep your eye on the line-up so that if you need to change, you get it done asap!

There's usually several performers for each show.

    JoJo,

Can you provide some info on Rockettown? It seems that Saturday night March 3rd, my 17 year old daughter's favorite band, Gym Class Heroes is playing there. Is it a club, concert hall? Easy to get to? Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Glenn

    Thumbs up Rocketown in Nashville

    Glenn,

Rocketown is a huge entertainment facility (40,000 square feet) that's alcohol and drug free. There's an indoor skate park, three concert stages, a coffee bar, and video games.

Rocketown is located on the corner of 6th Avenue South and Shirley Street, just south of Broadway and right behind the Gaylord Entertainment Center. From Broadway - head south on 6th Avenue, through the light at Demonbreun, to the stop sign at Shirley. Rocketown is on the right.

Parking is limited - so here's some info that should help you....
Central Parking has graciously agreed to allow Rocketown visitors to park in their lot directly behind the Gaylord Entertainment Center (across 6th Avenue from Rocketown) for $3 - $5, depending on the event. Please pay for parking at the yellow Central Parking box located on the lot. Parking in the lots of our surrounding neighbors is at your own risk. These lots are never free, so if you didn’t pay an attendant, it’s likely you’ll be towed. These lots are not staffed by Rocketown employees. If you’re ever in doubt please ask a Rocketown staff member.

Your daughter's favorite band is playing here? What luck - have a blast!
