    Default Were Here!!!

And moved into the Stahlman. The building is lovely and still undergoing renovation but our move went smoothly and we are enjoying our new neighborhood. I will update more about the building and neighborhood if anyone is interested.

    Default Living Downtown

It is, as I said, a lovely old building. My husband, myself, our dog and cat are adjusting well. We have to be creative with our storage space and a small kitchen, few countertops and no microwave. The views are great although we do get a lot of siren noise in the evenings and week ends, lot's of party and club noise, broken glass sounds, car alarms but we can deal with that.

You need a card key to get anywhere in the building so if you forget that, your screwed. Parking is across the street in the court building which can be a little creepy at nite due to the many homeless who reside there. The homeless are all over downtown and can be very aggressive, they urinate in the newsstands so be careful about that yellow newspaper! Lot's of the smaller cafe's are only open a few hours during week days so best bet for a meal would be on broadway, although the food is kinda bland.

There is construction going on EVERYWHERE downtown and sidewalks may be closed. That's hard when I'm walking my dog as she hasn't learned about traffic but she enjoys the courthouse area and they do have poo bags on the trashcans. The weather has been WILD!!! Snow flurries last week and warming trend this week end. Drivers are very courteous and everyone we have met has been friendly and they take a lot of pride in their city, very welcoming and gracious to us unlike California.

My husband went straight to work and enjoys his new territory. I am hearing some horrow stories about how they treat RN's here so will most likely stick with agency temp in clinics or hospitals eventually. Our utilities are cheaper here, so is food and gas, we anticipate our cost of living to go down some while our quality is on the rise! The views are interesting, we can see the river, the foot bridge and Titan Stadium, also the Bellsouth building is pretty at nite, very dramatic and expansive views.

The building managers are very nice and helpful but the maintenance guys are a bit slow to respond, our bathroom is very dark for instance and we need the lightbulb replaced, they request that we not do it ourselves. The ceilings are vaulted with exposed pipes and crown moulding, the floor is 100 year old hardwood that you cannot damage even if you tried! We haven't hung any pictures yet because many of the walls are concrete which keeps the noise level with my neighbors to a minimum. It is mostly young professionals who live and work here, lot's of attorneys and accountants who keep to themselves and are polite. Very pet friendly but a 400$$$ deposit for each, my cat and dog which is only partially refundable but worth it if you are attached to the furry critters. A balcony would be great, there is no retail or restaurants in the building which I had been told was coming. Great location for that but parking would be a bother.

Overall, a delightful building that reflects Nashvilles charm and we are enjoying our brief stay downtown, our goal is to get a house on Old Hickory Lake as soon as possible. Hope this helps, take a tour, there are many different floor plans available and we chose the 2 bedroom 2 bath unit, about 1000 square feet on a higher floor. I would stay away from the interior units since they have no view, no natural lite comes in and they are pretty claustrophobic but all the appliances are new and in good condition, stackable washer dryer, new dishwasher, sinks, tubs, good water pressure.

Hope this helps. Oh, and old fashioned trash chutes on every floor which makes taking out the trash fun. There is temporary parking in the front of the building and shopping carts are provided if you want to unload your car which is a nice touch. OK, that's it for now!
