Question Looking for a hotel for my mother..can you help?

    Hello everyone
I've been reading the other posts and have gotten a lot of useful information but I cannot decide where is the best place to stay..

I am booking a trip to Nashville for my mother and sister for October.

I would like to book a hotel for them which is in a safe area and which is still rather convenient to the areas they will go to (big country music fans..so I guess OpryLand will be part of it..and some quiet bars).
They are also not so used to travelling and have never been to US before..so hence I'd like to make it as easy and safe as possible for them.

Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Michelle

Default Looking for a hotel in Nashville for family in October

    Dear Michelle:

Thanks for your inquiry. First, let's try and narrow your choices. Opryland is about a 10 to 15 minute drive away from downtown Nashville (they do offer shuttle service). Downtown is very safe (although, as in any major city, don't take undue risks: don't venture off by yourself at night and always be aware of your surroundings) and there's lots to do within walking distance.

The action is in downtown, so when you mention "quiet bars", you'll need to keep in mind that most are, well, not so quiet. That said, The Oak Bar at The Hermitage Hotel and the bar at Morton's Steakhouse are both elegant and sophisticated and I'd certainly be comfortable ******ing my mother to either place!

So, let us know if you think they would like to stay within the immediate downtown Nashville or at the Opryland Hotel or within that area and we will go from there!

    hi Kate

    Many thanks for your reply.

It sounds like Downtown would be the best place then..they will not be driving so they will be relying on local transport/taxis to get around.

Ideally it would be a small-mid sized hotel in not too noisy an area..but still within walking distance so they could go out at night. They are quite easy-going people so I think they would perfer a easy-going but nice hotel rather than one aiming towards business people.

thanks once again for your time and help
    Michelle

    Dear Michelle:

As no doubt have realized, finding a nice hotel in a downtown of any major city is definitely going to cost more than a $100 a night.

So if they want to stay downtown and walk to places, the budget has to increase - sadly, there is no getting around this. I'd suggest Holiday Inn Express or the Marriott Courtyard for reasonably priced accommodations with the basic amenities you seek. Going up a bit in price from these two, but still not the most expensive, would be properties like the Sheraton & Doubletree.
    Hope this is helpful!
