    Default October visit

Can anyone make any suggestions regardng what side of town to stay on while visiting Nashville in October. I have Marriott points but I do not have to use them. We plan on doing the basic tourist stuff...but didn't know if there was a certain location where there are hotels and you are able to walk to the different venues. If not, can anyone just suggest a nice, safe area to stay? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
