THE GENERAL JACKSON SHOWBOAT RISES ABOVE THE WATERS AND SETS SAIL AGAIN
After Detrimental Flood, the Landmark Showboat Returns to the Water June 5
Nashville, Tennessee—(June 2, 2010) After what could be the worst flood ever to hit Nashville, Tenn., one Music City icon is in tip-top shape and ready to once again bring world-class entertainment and a warm welcome to guests starting Saturday, June 5, 2010. The General Jackson Showboat, the world’s grandest showboat and one of the most popular Gaylord Opryland Resort attractions, is scheduled to set sail from its dock on the Gaylord Opryland complex with its midday show, Tim Watson’s Fiddlin’ Around, and its evening cruise, Country Music USA show.
“We have a lot to celebrate—we have been able to rise above the waters after an unprecedented flood—and are excited to bring back the unparalleled entertainment and Southern hospitality for which the Gaylord Opryland brand is known,” said Dennis Schnurbusch, general manager of the General Jackson Showboat. “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Middle Tennessee impacted by this devastating natural disaster. It will take time for recovery and restoration to happen, and the General Jackson is committed to doing its part in returning this city to its prominent place.”
The General Jackson experienced damage to its administration offices and its box office, where computer equipment, retail merchandise and food and beverage supplies were located. The showboat itself was unharmed during the flood on May 2, 2010. Because of the damage done to the neighboring Opry Mills Mall and its parking lot, access to the General Jackson Showboat is currently limited to a remote parking lot on the hotel’s campus. Shuttles will transport guests to the iconic showboat and back. The parking lot is located off McGavock Pike, at the last stoplight past the hotel’s entrance.
The showboat will be running its full schedule of performances starting June 5, 2010, just in time for the CMA Music Festival. Tickets can be easily purchased anytime of the day online at www.generaljackson.com. They are also available on a limited basis over the phone. Please call 615-458-3900 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday.
