I want to thank you for responding to my message. Also, I want to say that I am sorry about your less than stellar reception from the job market. I'm sure you will find something soon. RNs are always in demand. It doesn't surprise me very much about the salary difference between Tennesse and California. Hang in there. Things have got to pick up soon.

Hi all. Today is my first day of really plumping up my resume and calling around to market myself. Either employers are still in a daze from New Years or I am really not the spark plug I thought I was but so far I've heard "Oh, your a registered nurse ? What line of work are you in now?" and also told that most travel nurse assignments are 50 miles away if I really wanna work. I contacted the Government site for licensing requirements and was told I can't work until they do a background check and endorse me here.

Pretty frustrating all around, also told my hourly rate will drop by 10 bucks an hour from California. I'm glad to be here but kinda feeling useless. I have been a RN for 10 years and had to beat recruiters off with a stick , now I can't get an appointment for an interview. Yikes.

    Nashville

Hello there Jen! Happy to see you have joined the Nashville.com Forum!

According to Salary.com, the cost of living in Nashville, TN is 3.8% higher when compared to Huntsville, AL. Nashville has certainly earned impressive accolades in the areas of economic development and strength, best performing cities, and perhaps most notable, Expansion Management magazine ranked Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro MSA for the second year in a row No. 1 in the “America’s 50 Hottest Cities” category. For someone like yourself considering a move to Nashville, this should be music to your ears! Want more? In June 2006, Kiplinger magazine published an articled titled "50 Smart Places to Live". According to Kiplinger, the rankings were based on an ideal city which is fun, vibrant and affordable and their top pick was Nashville!

Employment....Here are just a few names of corporate headquarters located in the area: Bridgestone/Firestone, Caterpillar Financial, Central Parking Corporation, Gaylord Entertainment Co., Nissan, HCA, Caremark, Dollar General, and LP.

    Best of luck to you!

    Job Opportunities in Nashville

I am pondering a move to Nashville but want to get a job first. Presently, I live near Decatur in Alabama;I have lived different places and some cities are harder to get started in than others. I am an older woman who returned to school later in life. My BA is in English and my MA is in Education. Recently, I realized that teaching in the public school system is not for me. There seems to be different kinds of businesses in Nashville, more than I originally thought. Anyway, does anyone have any words of wisdom about the cost of living and finding a job?
