My husband and two young children (ages 5 and 18 months) are relocating to Nashville and are looking for an "urban neighborhood" (similar to The Fan neighborhood of Richmond and the Virginia Highlands of Atlanta). Ideally, we'd like to be able to walk to shops and restaurants while still maintaining a small patch of yard and a single family home. Do "urban neighborhoods" like this exist? Also, how do people get acquainted with Nashville residents and meet new people/make friends?

a website i have found helpful for this sort of this is walkscore.com. if you type in an address, or just "nashville, tn" it shows you all the available things within walking distance. schools, grocery stores, parks, movie theaters, and so on. i'd check it out if you want to make sure there will be things to do within walking distance of your new home.

Hello,
If you have to be closer in to Nashville you may consider the Green Hills area of Nashville as well West End, Hillsboro Village.
If you can live 30-40 minutes out then you may want to take a look at Westhaven in Franklin. Click here (http://www.nashvillesmls.com/westhaven.php) for more info.
