I will be attending Vanderbilt in 2010 to start my Doctorate work and my family and I would like to get a jump on the city at least a year in advance. Not sure of locations, but some place near the University would be great in community with stable home values. We are looking to buy a home. Any information would be valuable.

thanks,
taa

Vanderbilt is really a small area surrounding the University, so it’s pretty much self contained and no real suburban areas. The area seems to have a steady demand due to the constant turnover of students etc. The Vandy area has a mixture of rentals and homeowners. West End is another area close by that is very popular. These areas can range from the low 200s up to 2M. By the way, John Rich of Big and Rich lives in this area, so you can imagine it must be a pretty nice home!

First congratulations on acceptance to Vanderbilt!

There are some great neighborhoods near Vanderbilt.

Hillsboro Village - hillsborovillage.com - One of Nashville's desirable neighborhood because of it's close proximity to Vanderbilt. Older homes, 20th century bungalows and some new. Price per square is between $200-$300.

Sylvan Park - sylvanparknews.com - A popular area if you are looking for eclectic and hip. 1910 - 1940's bungalows and Queen Anne cottages. You are looking at about $170 square foot.

Green Hills - nashville.citysearch.com/roundup/41271 - More recent developments with sophistication. Great shopping. Starts at about $220 sq.ft.

There are other neighborhoods, but this is a good start. Let me know how else I can help you or I would be happy to set you up to receive new listings as they come in sent to your email during 2009 and 2010. Good luck and all the best.

HI. I am an artist and photographer, entrepreneur that wants to find a studio apartment near the city..single, rent must be low so I can start my business there...is this possible...can you find such places, safe, not too terribly loud. I am also an aspiring songwriter, and want to take some writing lessons. Want to move there in July, as I am finding out my job ends in May.

Congrats on getting into Vanderbilt. You will love the Vanderbilt and Nashville area. Their are some great neighborhoods in that area where you will feel very comfortable with your family. I live in Green Hills, which is less than a 10 minute drive from my house to Vanderbilt. Also, Hillsboro Village is a great area to live in. If you need anymore help please let me know.
