Hi my name is Ann and I am thinking about relocating to Nashville. I currently live in WI and have never been to Nashville...my best friend lives there and has given me excellent information but I don't get a lot of chances to talk to him. I already have my house on the market here and once it sells, the only thing stopping me is a job. I have been on website after website. I currently work as a Hotel Sales Executive. I also went to Travel School and have worked as a Travel Agent. I would like to stay in one of those lines of work but am open to anything. I need something that will pay good with benefits. I have 2 small children so obviously they are my number one concern....Can someone help with where I can continue my search for employment. And also where you would suggest to live. I need somewhere safe with good schools and not too expensive. I am looking into renting an apartment... Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!

A possible relocation to Nashville is exciting news - congratulations! As far as your job search, if you've already tackled website after website with no luck, you may just need to network, network and NETWORK! You're already in the business so you should have some contacts. Perhaps these contacts may not be in Nashville but there might be someone who knows someone who can help you get your foot in the door. Also, with your background, get that resume out to everyone!

Regarding schools and neighborhoods - here's a suggestion for you - visit Tennessee.Gov and research the schools. Click on the Education tab and from there click on K-12. This will at least get you familiar with Nashville schools which may lead you to specific neighborhoods that may pique your interest.

Best of luck to you! ;)

It's also much tougher to find a job when you live out of state and there are many qualified candidates here locally. I just moved here from out of state and had to go through the exact same thing. Once I moved out here things picked up and I got a decent job. Good luck.

That's exactly the approach I am taking. Many employers there only want local candidates and the temp agencies tend to remember those there and fresh in mind. I'm moving to Nashville in April and got an apartment ahead of time.

Ann, a client of mine has had success with two local temp agencies, but I wasn't sure from your post if this would be a potential transition that would suit your needs.

Regarding schools, many local parents reccomend Williamson County Schools (http://www.wcs.edu/) though teachers from Metro (Davidson County), Sumner County, and others would tell you they are every bit as good. You might want to try GreatSchools.net to compare the schools you currently know with the local offerings here in the Nashville area.
