i just moved to nashville from new york city.
right, it's a big changed.

actually, my first impression of music city isn't that pretty.
i saw men smoking marijuana at the kroger parking lot.
and a woman handed flyers searching for suspect who shot and killed
her son and his friend. and you know what? this happened at the same
kroger store located at where 8th ave and monroe street meet.
it's very near to downtown nashville.

music city will be much beautiful and great city to live
if the city concern about security and safety for the public.

but anyway, it was the first impression i've got from music city
which gave me a sour taste.

Sorry to hear about your bad first impression. I can promise you that it was, by far, the exception and not the rule. My first day in Nashville was completely different and I fell hard for Music City, USA. And guess what? I used to live in New York City. In fact, I bartended for two years on the 107th floor of the World Trade Center (one of my cousins was killed in Tower 2 on 9/11).
Now don't get me wrong, I still love NYC and I'm sorry to read about your first day's experience in Nashville. But if seeing some guys smoke a joint, and reading a flyer handed out by a crime victim is the worst thing you experience in Nashville, none of that can compare to some of the things I saw when I was living in New York City.

Best,

if you lived in nyc, you saw far crazier things than N'ville has to offer. i lived in brooklyn for a long time and detroit for even longer. the music city is tame in comparison, and far more beautiful... anyone coming from the east coast shouldn't be too shocked to see a spliff getting passed around. but, as with anywhere in our modern world-from harlem to smallville usa, watch your back!!! evil knows no prejudice...
peace!

Hi,
I'm a french studient and very interested in Nashville (I'd like to realise an artistic project liking to your town) that's why I try to collect some informations about this city. I don't really know how to do that, it's quite difficult to meet (virtually) some inhabitants and ask them about their life in Nashville, feelings, etc...
If you can help me to understand well this town and try to imagine its atmosphere, it will be very generous and cool.

I hope someone will read this note and answer to me.

P.S. : I'm sorry for the mistakes...

Nashville has a great music scene, there are plenty of live music clubs, lots of young people (especially because of Vanderbilt University & Belmont University), Tennessee Titans football team, Nashville Predators hockey team, bars, restaurants, museums, arts, etc. Nashville certainly has a lot to offer. To get a great experience of Nashville - certainly stay downtown. Are you interested in visiting or attending school in Nashville?

Are you interested in visiting or attending school in Nashville?

Why not! It will be super if I could go to Nashville in order to study but for now I can't (later perhaps?). I'm in an Art School, in Master1 (which means 4 years after the A levels) and I have to work this year and the next to obtain my diploma. I have an artistic project : the town where I study (in France) is "combined" with Nashville that's why I'd like to make something (lighting sculpture linked to Nashville with sound sensors). The aim is to communicate the 2 cities with an installation. I'd like that people realize that they are linked to an american city, I'd like that they will be curious, intrigued.
I don't know if you understand well my project, it's difficult to speak about it 'cause, currently, it's just an idea, I've only a model and some informations, nothing else.
Do you know how could I have more informations? How could I speak with people who live in Nashville? It's very important to me to try to imagine your city. Could you give me more details, some anecdotes, your feelings about the city, the way you live here, all you want?

Thank you for having ask to me.

I'm sorry if you don't understand well what I whrite.

I'm sure there are plenty here to help you the best they can. Try to ask specific questions and not just general so we can understand more of what you are seeking. Sounds like a cool project!

I wonder where I could install sound sensors in Nashville. I'd like to chose the best place, where a lot of people or cars circulate. The aim is to pick up sounds, transforme its in order to make react a lighting sculpture (variable intensity of the light).
As I don't know at all the city, I can't imagine all sounds you can hear. In my city, for example, I'm used to hearing the noise of cranes and other machines when I go to school 'cause there is a big construction side near the station. At night, it's very silent, except on thursday or on week end. And you, can you describe me your feelings about Nashville? The way you cross the city, the habits you have, the streets where there is a lot of noise or special sounds...
I know it's very general but I can't be more precise 'cause what I need are only feelings, different from a person to another. I try to imagine your city but I have no photographs, no sound, nothing. If you have some reference to give me (website, music or anything else), I'll be really happy! But if you don't understand what I need or if it appears so much complicate, it's not important, I'll try other thing, elsewhere.

Thank you for your interest and your patience.

Sound sensors? You'll need to contact the city of Nashville for that one - www.nashville.gov. General sounds of downtown Nashville? Never really gave it a lot of thought, but more or less like any other city except there's loud speakers on the streets playing music which is very cool. You'll also hear music as you walk (especially on Broadway) of live music playing from the many honky tonk clubs. Nashville is not a large city, but pretty much has everything a big city does - live music clubs, restaurants, lots of locals and tourists, hotels, high rise condos, high rise office buildings and traffic.

It's very interesting, I didn't know that. Do you know when the loud speakers begin to play music (in the morning, I suppose, but what time?) and when they stop? Concerning the honky tonk, I didn't know too so I 've searched on the internet and I've read some informations about the history of country music. Can you give me a few names of artists? Because I'd like to listen (on the internet) some extracts of this music.
Thank you vey much.

I do not know exactly when the music starts or ends, but sure it's within reasonable time in the morning and then shut down at a reasonable time during the evenings.
