And many smiles (illegal and otherwise), I have given up on the Knoxville area and will be moving to Nashville within 4 to 6 weeks. My girlfriend is driving cab, and will just have to get the permits to drive cab, then we will have to find a place to live.

Apartment will have to be 2 bedrooms at the Very Least, with a limit of 1000 per month. Location has to be near bus stops or park and ride centers since she will not have a car and I will need to use mine until she can get her own car.

I have been away from Nashville for 15 years, and will want to know what areas to avoid, what areas are good for low to middle income folks and what else anyone here can think of that would be useful to a Prodigal Son returning.

Thanks in advance...

I do know that Hermitage and Madison tend to have lower rents and these are still close to downtown. Downtown Nashville is getting very pricey as are the other cool places like Vanderbilt, Green Hills, West end etc.

Have you checked out apartment sites? I don't rent, so I'm not real familiar with all of them, but I'm sure you could find a lot - I think there's an 'apartment finder' site and an apartments.com site. Check 'em all out. Do you have a place to stay (friends / family) when you first get here, or do you need an apt first? Hopefully you have a place to stay before you lock yourself into a year lease. This would give you time to check out places like Hermitage and Madison before fully committing to living there for an extended period of time.

Congrats on your return - Nashville certainly has grown in the past few years and I don't see it ending any time soon!

Hermatige isn't surprising, since it's always been the more affordable place. It will be me, my girlfriend and two of my friends that will be moving here. I was born and raised, she lived here for about a year, and my two friends have never even visited Nashville.

No, we haven't checked Apartments dot com, but that is on the to-do list. Not surprising that West End, Vandy, Green Hills is pricey, but then they've always been on the high end of things, even when I was living there long ago.

Plan is, girlfriend goes ahead of me, gets a cab driving job, finds place to live, I and my two friends follow shortly behind.

there's one near vanderbilt univesity called music city hostel - think it gets mixed reviews. and there's another in brentwood called country hostel nashville. i'm sure you already know that brentwood is a desirable area, so it can't be that bad! i hear rates are like $22 a night.

good luck!
